Actos, generically known as Pioglitazone, is a prescription oral diabetes medicine. It was approved by the FDA on July 15, 1999 and is designed to help control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Under no circumstances should it be used by people with type 1 diabetes. Actos can cause serious side effects. It may trigger new, or exacerbate previous heart failure. It can cause fluid retention, weight gain and edema, all of which have to potential to strain the heart. Individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient, Pioglitazone, may experience additional side effects.
