IVC Filter - Lawsuit
In August 2010, the FDA released common side effects associated with long-term use of IVCs. Over a five year period, approximately 921 cases were identified. According to the study, adverse effects of IVCs were related to the filters remaining in place longer than necessary. The FDA also listed embolization as the second most frequently reported complication. IVCs have been linked to many complications including vein and organ perforation, device migration and breakage/device fractures causing injury to patients. Because of the risks, The Society of Interventional Radiology has created guidelines for IVCs implantation.
