The Medical Transportation Program (MTP) is a medicaid program providing non-emergency medical transportation services for patients of any age. MTP can arrange a ride to a doctor’s office, dentist’s office, hospital, drug store or any place that provides covered health care services. It can also pay for local transportation such as a bus, train or airplane ticket for both the injured and a caretaker. Services are provided throughout the state of Texas.

Mental Health Support in Texas

2-1-1 Texas is a program of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission “committed to helping Texas citizens connect with the services they need. Whether by phone or internet, our goal is to present accurate, well-organized and easy-to-find information from state and local health and human services programs.” With 25 information areas throughout the state open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they can provide information to those struggling with mental illness in homeless shelters, affordable/transitional housing, and residential care to adults and teens.

Texas Health and Human Services 

Texas Health and Human Services provides resources covering all demographics. They will assist with an array of services from counseling to reduce symptoms of mental illness to substance abuse. They are contracted with 37 local mental health authorities and two local behavioral health authorities across Texas.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Texas (NAMI Texas)

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Texas (NAMI Texas) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1984 and has 27 local affiliates throughout Texas. Their goal is to treat people who suffer with mental illness and improve their lives through support, advocacy and education. NAMI Texas works to inform the public through newspaper articles, TV interviews, brochures and other means of public communication. Psychiatric care or counseling is not available through NAMI.
